Have you ever thought of a Banner as a permanent sign.
Idiotic right? Yes, I'll agree but the outdoor installation method
should be designed for permanence. The key to any Banner
installation is Bungee cords. Yes the same thing you use to hold
down the trunk of your '83 Impala. Seriously, 18 oz Banner weight,
sewing with reinforced corners and webbing is great and grommets every 12"
is fabulous, but if wind can not spill out of the banner, it will shred.
A banner like a sail on a boat constricts the wind.
(ie windload) The windload is what causes grommets to pull out,
seams to tear and banners to shred. A set of bungee cords allow the
banner to move, stretch if you will, allowing that windload to spill over
the top or under the bottom. This spilling action is what gives the
banner it's longevity.
Bungee cords come in a variety of thicknesses and colors,
use your judgment to choose which would suit your application best. When
positioned properly, slight tension with an outward corner pull, the
bungee cord ensures a smooth expanded banner for best visibility.
Use the bungees when installing banners on buildings, between posts
or on the sides of vehicles. (not when they are moving).
To sum up banner installations, use good anchor hardware
and at least four matching bungees. You'll be surprised how
you don't hear from your customer.
