Many of you produce and install your signage.
Installations consist of three basic categories. Vinyl application,
sign installation and sign erection. This short article should help
outline what you should carry around in your vehicle and on your person
for vinyl application.
Go to your local hardware store and purchase the
following: Qty 1 - 30' tape measure, Qty 2 - 8" torpedo levels, Qty
2 rolls of 1" masking tape, Qty 1 - 18" or 24" Straight edge ruler (if
this does not fit in your box, buy a bigger box) and 2' of velcro (hook
and loop). On each item, mount velcro, find an area of the tool box
along the side walls and stick them. Add an exacto, some replacement
blades, 2 grease pencils (white & blue), 2 squeegies, a roll of paper
towels and your choice of Windex, rubbing alcohol, adhesive remover or all
three. Throw in a couple of garbage bags and you have the basics.
You can customize your box with additional supplies as you deem necessary.
Now, stay out of this box for supplies, this will ensure that on an
installation, everything you need will be available.
This article may seem beyond simple, but somewhere in your
past, you've gone on an install and had to creatively use a credit card
for a squeegie, electrical tape for masking tape or your eyeball for a
level. When you find something in the shop with velcro on it, you
know to return it to the box. When installs go smoothly, you
make money.
